Time For A Change?

We’re thinking about making some changes to Friday night salsa…

Firstly, over the next few weeks I’m going to be changing the scope of the website www.adelaidedance.com to include news, reviews and events related to all types of dance in adelaide not just salsa.

Secondly we are considering changes to the format of Friday night salsa itself, examples include inviting guests instructors to teach and including other styles of dance not just salsa.

But before we go ahead with these changes I want to know what you think…

What do you like about Friday night salsa?

How do you think we can improve Friday night salsa?

adelaide dance – Melanie And Sanne’s Farewell Salsa Party!

We’re saying goodbye to two people who have contributed a lot to Friday night salsa in their own unique way.

Melanie who joined us late last year and has basically been running the show for the past six months. She has found a job in Canberra and so will be moving there in early June.

Sanne who joined us in February and has given us all the travel / camping bug. She will be finishing her work experience as a student / teacher in late May and will be off to do some more travel / camping before returning to Holland to complete her studies.

So come along to celebrate / congratulate / farewell these two awesome girls!

As usual there will be a beginners’ class at around 8.15pm however there will be no intermediate class, instead we will have approximately 3 hours of social dancing.

To add to the excitement, I will be bringing my DJ-ing equipment and playing a selection of salsa, pop, R&B and hip hop tunes.

The price is still the same $3.00 and we would like to encourage you to bring some food and / or drink to share.

Please note, for insurance purposes we are not allowed to have alcohol on the premises as this would require us to hire security guards and that would be a pain in a-hole.

FYI we got some complaints after our last salsa party at the North Adelaide Community Centre regarding people making too much noise around the car park behind the community centre and also because of the litter that was left behind (mainly cans of beer and spirits) so if you decide to come and / or invite anyone along, be sure to let them know that alcohol will not be tolerated inside or around the community centre and please stay away from the car park behind the community centre! This is for everyone’s benefit so that we can continue to run salsa classes and parties for you.

Well apparently there aren’t enough men around who are willing to learn salsa dancing because the Wednesday night salsa classes being run by La Bomba Productions at their Ridleyton / Croydon headquarters seems to be attracting four times as many girls. Their current six week course has 20 girls registered and only 5 guys. Minh-Tri Le is a Sydney based Choreographer and Dance Instructor who has danced for Jessica Mauboy and Sony, he has also assisted Supple “the Dance Scientist” at his Masterclass where they taught a So You Think You Can Dance group routine and he is currently part of the teaching faculty at the Sydney Dance Company Studios.

Minh is coming back to Adelaide to share what he has learnt from his two years of being a choreographer and dance instructor in Sydney.

But the “dirty little secret” is that going to one of his workshops is just step 1…

This promises to be an awesome event and you’re sure to learn heaps but the problem is that afterwards it will be up to you to keep practicing and master what you have learnt!

But with so much to learn you may be easily overwhelmed and forget everything, I was concerned about this which is why I asked Minh if I could bring along my video camera and record the entire workshop.

He agreed…

I will make a recording of both classes using my video camera and send it out to you within one week after the workshop is finished.

Unfortunately, the videos will be very “Ghetto” because I’m lazy and don’t want to waste too much time messing around with video editing software and trying to make it look fancy and besides, that’s not what you really want is it? You just want a recording of the workshop so that you don’t forget what you learnt and so that you can refer to it when and if necessary don’t you?

Minh is a Sydney based choreographer who started out as an underground free-styler. Minh’s dance pieces resonate with the music and hit the beats fiercely so dancers can dance “inside” the music.

You may remember Minh… he used to teach the Hip Hop classes on Friday nights in conjunction with the Hybrid Kinetic Dance Group at the North Adelaide Community Centre?

Well, he moved to Sydney a few years ago and has been teaching there also.

Lots of people have been asking about Minh’s Hip Hop dance classes, so by popular demand he is going to be putting together a workshop here in Adelaide to give us a run down of what he has learnt over the past few years.
